Hallsville Middle School was originally built in 1952 as an elementary school for students as young as kindergarten. As the district grew, the facility was repurposed for students in grades six through eight, and many of the classrooms are undersized for young adults. Even with additions over the years, the facility is inadequate for contemporary schooling, with narrow hallways, aging plumbing, and electrical systems that cannot support the demands of learning technology in 2022.
Our school district’s enrollment continues to grow. We have more students than Macon and Centralia, and projections show this trend will continue as new housing developments are built in and around Hallsville.
Hallsville Middle School is currently at 97% of capacity and expected to exceed 100% by 2025. Additional classrooms are needed as the number of students continues to climb.
The existing six-lane athletic track is inadequate and in a state of increasing disrepair, including structural integrity problems that may become a safety concern in the future. The lack of spectator seating and performance lighting reduce the usefulness of the facility by limiting the ability to host competitions and events. Relocating the track to the stadium will consolidate two athletics performance venues, eliminating the need to maintain separate outdoor facilities.
